About the Artist

I’m Zac, an outdoor enthusiast and watercolor artist. I love spending time surrounded by nature. I find it adventurous, healing, and inspiring.

I first started painting with watercolor nearly a decade ago when I found myself living and working in Yosemite National Park. I found its granite walls, high-country mountain ranges, raging rivers, and alpine meadows creatively captivating. Through friendship and community, I became connected with the local art scene and began painting with this seemingly intractable medium.

Over the years, friends, artists, and mentors generously shared their time, knowledge, and encouragement, helping me bring my artistic visions to life on paper. Along the way, I became drawn to watercolor’s transparency, luminosity, and unpredictability. Its very nature allows light to remain part of the painting, while washes can move and blend in ways that aren’t entirely controllable. The medium invites me to slow down and observe - to notice small details in shape, composition, light and shadow, color, and atmosphere. When this practice is approached mindfully, a finished painting becomes a byproduct of an enjoyable process.

These days, I’m based in the Truckee/Tahoe area of the Sierra Nevada mountains - an equally beautiful landscape that I’m eager to explore and create in. Whether I’m painting outside in the elements or in the studio, my work will continue to be shaped by the landscapes that call my attention.
